Science is a difficult subject to be studied if you will look at it closely. Everything in this life, in this world, in this solar system, in this galaxy and in this universe has an element of Science to it. Simply put, Science is inseparable to life.

This is the main reason why Science is one of the major subjects in formal schooling. Often times, this subjected is either dreaded or hated or ignored by a lot of school children, especially kids. The challenge now for curriculum advisers, teachers and even parents is to make Science attractive, fun and informative for kids.

How do you exactly make Science fun but still informative for your kids? Here are some of the tips that you can follow as your guide even if you are the teacher or the parent.

Supplement the lecture with hands- on experience. This generation is lucky because the society is recognizing their need for other learning tools. Lectures no longer stand alone. This should be followed- up with experiential learning.

A lot of tools are very much available for you to use for your kids. There is the science kit that is complete in itself. These are readily bought in bookstores and school needs stores. They are usually replicas of a certain subject in Science. You kid will surely appreciate the Science kit.

In addition, a lot of e- resources are available for free for your students. There isinteractive software like games which are designed to teach your children and at the same time provide entertainment. There are also DVDs that are educational. Have your computer installed with these software and programs.

Create/ Join unique Science activities. You can create activities that your kid will surely enjoy, but will still give him or her lessons about Science. You can have the Supermarket Science day where you will bring your kids to the Supermarket and teach them about proper nutrition by teaching them to select good foods for the body. You can create Saturday picnics in a nature spot and have a subtle lesson about taking care of the environment. The driving philosophy of NCERT while drafting the NCERT Science curriculum and books has always been to provide students with education material that is ‘true to life, true to child and true to science’ . The NCERT has been publishing NCERT Science text books with content that reflects this philosophy.

To make the process of conceptual understanding and learning systematic,NCERT has divided the entire NCERT Science curriculum from grade 1 to XII into various levels. These levels focus on the progressively incremental nature of the knowledge acquiring process that emphasizes a sequential building of concepts. A learning process that is sequential in nature helps students understand the concepts easily and also leads to a better retention of the studied material as it fits into the knowledge schema that already exists with the child. This helps students to efficiently master all important concepts particularly in the in sciences and maths.

At the first level, that is the primary level , the focus is on ‘exploration’. Here the students are encouraged to explore the world. Through the various activities and practical exercises in the NCERT Science books, the students are encouraged to gain knowledge through hands-on experience. For example in the primary classes while teaching about trees, the students are asked to collect different type of leaves and prepare a scrap book with the names of each of the leaves.

Once a student passes through the first level the next is the upper primary level. Here the stress is on learning by involving the students in group discussions with peers, performing simple experiments etc. Under the ‘Extended Learning’ activities in NCERT Science books, the students are guided to explore more information about the topics already studied. Once the required information is gathered a classroom discussion following it helps to concretizing the learning and fills the gaps. A group discussion facilitates easy exchange of information. For example, in the NCERT Science book for Class VII an activity in the Chapter ‘Nutrition in Plants’, asks students to visit a greenhouse and observe how plants are raised. Science City is one remarkable science museum in India that promotes learning about sciences, the environment, communications, and about modern technology. Objectives
Science City aims to expose the growth of Science and Technology along with its applications for the environment and human welfare. People behind this center want to promote public understanding and awareness, especially with regard to the importance of scientific studies and culture. The center also wants to popularize science and technology by providing seminars, exhibitions, lectures, camps and other programs.

Attractions
Science City has a sylvan surrounding of beautiful landscape and gardens. It consists of two facilities namely, the Science and Convention Center. The Science Center also includes an Evolution Theme Park, Space Odyssey, Maritime Center, Dynamotion Hall and a Science Park.

The Evolution Theme Park stands in a 1,300 square meter area that takes visitors back to early age of evolution. It provides knowledge on gigantic animals of the past like dinosaurs and birds. It is divided into seven period settings ending with the advent of man.

The Space Odyssey is a circular dome shaped auditorium that looks like an inverted bowl. It is the main attraction of the complex building, housing the first theater for large format films, a time Machine, planetarium, Van de Graff generator and mirror magic. 3D Vision theaters showcase virtual reality on space sciences, electricity and motion. The spherical multi media projection system provides information on planets in the solar system.

The Maritime Center is a pavilion that describes maritime history, activity and subjects. The center is a two story building that was built on a 700 meters area similar to a ship.
